Becomes ABYC Master Technician

Deltaville, Virginia — Deltaville Boatyard (DBY) Technician Robert “Bobby” Stevenson of Gloucester has achieved a Master Technician status with the American Boat and Yacht Counsel (ABYC) by earning three separate ABYC certifications. Stevenson’s first ABYC certification in Marine Systems was awarded to him in September 2013. He also earned an ABYC Marine Electrical certification last May. Most recently, Stevenson passed the board exam for Marine Diesel engines this February.

“I would not have been able to pass one ABYC certification test – let alone three and obtain my Master Technician status without the support of my family at home and at Deltaville Boatyard,” stated Stevenson. When asked about earning other ABYC certifications in the future, Stevenson added, “I hear the Corrosion class and exam may be the most difficult but I think I am up to that challenge.”

Keith Ruse, Owner of Deltaville Boatyard commented, “In less than two years with DBY, Bobby has aggressively demonstrated his desire to improve his technical skills and promote a positive working environment at Deltaville Boatyard. His consummate professionalism has permeated throughout his peers and impressed many DBY clients. We are proud to have Bobby as part of the DBY team and of his professional achievement.”

The American Boat and Yacht Council have been developing safety standards for the design, construction, equipage, repair, and maintenance of boats for over 60 years. Deltaville Boatyard is an ABYC Standards Accredited service facility and currently employs a dozen technicians with ABYC certifications, six of which have three or more certifications and are ABYC Master Technicians.
